a Voice in the Wilderness

This is what missions work is all about.  Showing someone you love them by meeting their needs.  This opens up the opportunity for talking about why you’re doing that.  You may serve the needs of thousands of people without saying one word about Christ.  But you haven’t earned the privelege of speaking about Christ unless you’ve shown His love in your actions.  I certainly wouldn’t require that someone converts before I’ve helped them.  That only produces fake followers.

Indonesia (MNN)–Meanwhile,  Mission Aviation Fellowship[2]  has purchased
an amphibious plane to aid their efforts in Indonesia’s tsunami zone.
MAF’s Gene Jordan says they found out quickly that there were water-logged
areas they couldn’t reach.   “Since we’re planning on staying in that
province for probably at least two years we decided that we needed to have
our own airplane that had the capability of landing not only on land, but
also splashing down in the ocean, in the river, in the inlets, to better
satisfy the needs of helping those who are rebuilding that area of the
country.”    Jordan says ministry happens moments after the local people
would see a North American pilot bringing materials, and then,  “All of
the sudden, ‘Hey! This guy opened his mouth and spoke our language!’  So,
that opened things up for direct communication to share with the people,
‘This is why I am here–in response to Christ’s command to love each other
to care for each other and demonstrate His love.”

Ever wanted to use your computer skills to support missionary work? Here’s one place you can try.

In an article by Andy Rau, there is a computer related ministry that hopes to gather home based computer technicians & writers to help missionaries on the field. This would be an opportunity for Computer folks to use their skills to support on-going ministries. Andy also notes that it may be a place to get some tips to help your local ministry. Their support is only for missionaries, but the documentation may be useful to others.
