Podcasting

As the iPod becomes more popular (and cheaper), more people are looking for content. We also need to make it easy to get the sermons to the listener. The trick has been making it easy to get the recording from the web-host to the iPod. Maybe podcasting can help.
I’ve just recently come across the notion of podcasting. I don’t have an iPod, butI think this could be a way to distribute sermons (for instance) easily. Podcasting is built on the “encapsulation” feature in the RSS feeds. So we could do a blog posting for the sermon with a link for the Powerpoint, as well as some of the pastor’s thoughts about the sermon. Then the podcast receiver pulls the sermon audio off the blog-host when it sees the new RSS feed and loads it to the iPod. What could be simpler?
The slashdot effect could be an issue, especially since a lot of churches try to host the sermons as inexpensively as possible.
Here are some links I’m going to look at to try & understand the trechnology. I will follow up with further thoughts as I work through these postings.
